School Notice to All Families

Upcoming Events and Reminders

Good Afternoon Keeler Families,
We just wanted to reach out and provide some reminders and upcoming changes happening at Keeler.
  1. School council meeting Wednesday February 26th at 6:00pm
  2. Class and Spring pictures are on Wednesday February 26th.
  3. Front doors open at 8:00am - please ensure your child is not at school before this time as we do not have the capacity to supervise prior to 8:00am
  4. Starting April 6th, we will be implementing a new entry door for students who wish to participate in the Breakfast Program. Students will only be able to gain access through the South Door (by the park). If you child comes to the front door they will be kindly reminded to go around to the south door entrance.
  5. To ensure the safety of our staff, students and parents, PLEASE DO NOT PARK, drop off or pick-up in the parking lot. Our parking lot is very small and cannot facilitate drop offs or pick-ups during school hours. In recent weeks we have experienced multiple accidents which poses major safety concerns.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact the office.
Thank you,
Keeler School

Weekly Update

This week we have been busy working n math patterns and sorting the same objects into different groups by using different sorting rules such as size, shape color. We continue to experiment with counting and exploring numbers.

In Language Arts we studied the letters M and N. Some children are taking on the challenge of writing a sentence using a sentence starter. We are going to explore some frequently used sentence starters such as "I see a...", I love ...",  We are currently working with sentences that start with "I see..." As we continue to explore letters your child will become more interested in making real life connections to what he/she is learning at school. Try looking at street signs , store fronts, licence plates, and so on and ask your child if they can tell you about the letters they see.

Weekly Update

The past week was short but action packed. In Language Arts we finished our Alphabet tree. It now stands proudly in the Kindergarten hallway. The kids had a blast making their own "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Tree" and have requested to design more letters for it. We continue to experiment with the alphabet centres throughout the day. While learning about Valentine's Day we brainstormed and wrote ideas of what friendship means to us on heart shaped cards.

In math, we continue to practice counting groups of objects and making patterns. The students are using objects, fingers, and pencil and paper to explore these concepts The kids are getting the hang of naming and explaining how different patterns are made such as a 1, 2 or a 1,2,3 patterns.

On Wednesday morning we celebrated Valentine's Day and in the afternoon we had a very special guest, the superintendent of the CBE. Children had some time to talk to Mr. Chris and show some of their alphabet centre work. This was an awesome way to end our week before Teachers Convention and the long weekend.
Please remember there is no school on Monday. Enjoy Family Day! See you on Tuesday.

Weekly Update

This week we have started using math buckets to make different patterns. We have been talking about how patterns are made of the same sets of objects that repeat over and over. All the objects are the same in each group, and all the groups match. Any different objects do not belong in the pattern.  We have also put our matching mittens up in the hallway.

In Language Art we have been reviewing the letters and sounds we have learned so far. We are also trying to figure out how to put our Alphabet Tree together in the hallway.
We have made some fabulous plans, drew pictures in our visual journals, and are excited to see our project come together.

On February 12 we will be exchanging Valentines.

Children can exchange cards if they wish to do so. We will be talking about celebrating friendships and the people we treasure. If you wish to send Valentines please do not address cards to specific children as it would be extremely difficult to place the cards in the right Valentine bags during a group activity. Just address them to “my friend” and help your child to sign the cards. This is a great opportunity for your child to practice writing skills.

Weekly Update

Over the last week we have become more familiar with our Alphabet Centres. Please ask your child to describe their favorite one. We have been practicing recalling and describing school activities. Students have also added the letter "Oo" to their Alphabet books. As a fun activity please look at the posted pictures of letters and ask your child to identify some of the letters and sounds we have learned. Keep in mind that learning letters and sounds takes time and lots of practice.
In math we have been practicing patterns and we have been working on creating matching or symmetrical patterns.
